2. Double-Wire (Reinforced) Ribbon

Two parallel wires along each edge — one near the fabric edge, one 3–5mm inward. This creates additional structural rigidity for large decorative bows (diameter 15cm+), outdoor displays, and vehicle detailing where wind resistance is a factor.

3. Featherwire Ribbon

Uses ultra-thin 30–32 AWG wire encased in paper or tissue paper edges. Lightweight and flexible, used for delicate crafts, floral picks, and temporary display installations.

Buyer's Note: Most Chinese factories quote standard wire at 26 AWG (0.405mm). If your design requires 28 AWG (0.511mm) — a common spec for finer curling — specify it explicitly in your tech pack. Default factory settings often run heavier than intended.

Fabric Core Materials

The fabric that carries the wire — the ribbon's core — determines visual appearance, durability, and wash/fade resistance. Common OEM options:

Polyester Satin (Standard)

High-shine face with a matte back. Most popular for gift wrapping and floral. Accepts dye well, maintains color saturation. Typical weight: 85–120 gsm.

Grosgrain (Canvas-Weave)

Ribbed texture, excellent durability, good wire retention. Preferred for automotive decoration and premium packaging. Typical weight: 110–160 gsm.

Organza (Sheer)

Semi-transparent, lightweight. Often double-wired for structural integrity. Fray-prone if edge sealing is not specified.

Velvet / Velour

Soft-handle, high perceived value. Wire retention is more challenging due to pile texture — specify reinforced wire casing.

Jacquard Woven

Pattern-woven into the fabric, not printed. High-end aesthetic, typically used in luxury retail. Requires wider loom machinery (54"+).

Edge Finishing Quality Standards

Edge finishing determines how cleanly the wire is encapsulated and how resistant the ribbon is to fraying during transport or use.

Standard Fold-Over (Most Common)

Fabric is folded over the wire along both edges. The fold width — typically 3–6mm — should be consistent across the entire roll length. A 6mm fold is preferred for heavy wire configurations.

Taped Edge (Premium)

A separate fabric tape is heat-sealed or stitched over the wire casing. Produces a cleaner visual edge and better fray resistance. Standard in automotive OEM programs.

Heat-Sealed Edge (Synthetic Only)

Applicable only for polypropylene or acetate ribbon. The edge is melted to seal fibers. Not applicable for polyester or natural fiber cores.

Critical Spec: Always specify minimum fold width. Without this, factories may reduce fold to 2mm to save material — leading to wire exposure and potential injury in retail display applications.
